A Tiny Black-and-Gold Dongle That Punches Far Above Its Size

The ONIX Alpha XI1 is a portable USB DAC and headphone amplifier that measures just 63.8 × 32 × 14 mm and weighs 37.8 g, yet it is built around the kind of flagship silicon normally reserved for desktop gear. Slip it into a pocket with a phone or laptop and it turns any USB-C source into a serious high-resolution listening station. The machined body is finished in black with gold detailing, and the ribbed side panels double as a heatsink for the amplifier stage.

Dual Cirrus Logic CS43198 Converters for a Genuinely Quiet Background

Two Cirrus Logic CS43198 DAC chips handle conversion in the Alpha XI1, a pairing chosen for measured performance rather than marketing appeal. Dynamic range reaches 125 dB on the 3.5 mm single-ended output and 129 dB on the 4.4 mm balanced output, while total harmonic distortion plus noise is held to 0.0004% and 0.0005% respectively. Signal-to-noise figures of 126 dB and 129 dB mean sensitive in-ear monitors stay hiss-free even when you push the gain higher.

Balanced SGM8262 Amplification Delivers 500 mW of Real Power

The analogue stage uses a pair of SGM8262 amplifier chips running fully balanced, which is what lets the Alpha XI1 deliver 4.0 V and 500 mW into 32 Ω from its 4.4 mm output, or 2.4 V and 180 mW from the 3.5 mm socket. Channel separation measures 99 dB balanced and 71 dB single-ended, and output impedance stays at just 0.8 Ω and 0.4 Ω, so the amplifier behaves predictably with everything from multi-driver IEMs to full-size planar headphones.

A 0.87-Inch OLED Screen and Buttons You Can Use Without an App

Rather than hiding every adjustment inside software, the Alpha XI1 puts a 0.87-inch OLED display on the front panel beside three physical buttons. Volume, playback and device settings are all handled on the unit itself. The screen reports sampling rate, filter and gain status, can be set to any of eight typeface styles, and includes a screen saver that dims after inactivity. A ring RGB light confirms the incoming sample rate, so you can verify hi-res playback at a glance.

Eddict Player App, Dual Gain and Five Selectable Digital Filters

When you do want finer control, the Eddict Player app for Android exposes the settings that matter: volume trim, high and low gain, five different digital filter options and the power-saving mode. Dual gain is genuinely useful here, letting low-impedance IEMs run quietly on low gain while harder loads switch up. The Alpha XI1 also works as an external DAC for the Nintendo Switch, and every function is reachable from one multi-function button plus volume up and down.

Intelligent Power Management and a Cable You Can Replace

ONIX's intelligent power management adapts the internal operating conditions to whatever you are actually doing. Standby consumption drops by up to 80% and playback draws roughly 30% less than comparable designs, which matters when the DAC is running off a phone battery. The mode ships disabled and can be switched on in the app. The supplied cable is high-purity oxygen-free copper in a replaceable USB-C structure, so you can swap in whichever termination your device needs.
