Truly Compact Hi-Fi

The ONIX Tocata XM2 is the third portable player from ONIX and the smallest yet: a minimalist slab just 82 × 65 × 18mm and 140g, built to disappear into a pocket without giving up the brand’s approach to sound. Where the Overture XM5 leans on a large screen and a wide feature set, the XM2 strips things back to pure music — a compact aluminium body, a clear 3-inch display and physical controls that work by feel.

Flagship Cirrus Logic CS4308P DAC

At the centre of the XM2 is the Cirrus Logic CS4308P, a brand-new flagship 8-channel converter. ONIX describes the tuning as a deliberate exploration of new types of sound, and the platform supports PCM up to 768kHz / 32-bit and native DSD512, so even the largest high-resolution libraries are covered. A microSD slot accepts cards up to 2TB, and TIDAL online streaming is available directly on the device.

Brighton Architecture and Dual SGM8262 Amplifiers

The analogue stage follows the in-house "Brighton" architecture first developed for the ONIX range, built around an I/V conversion stage using two OPA1612 operational amplifiers. Amplification is handled by a pair of SGM8262 chips in a fully balanced configuration, which is what allows a player this small to deliver up to 800mW @ 32Ω from its 4.4mm output. Advanced FPGA technology combined with dual active crystal oscillators keeps timing accurate, and four selectable digital filters let you fine-tune the presentation.

Fully Balanced and Single-Ended Outputs

Both output types are provided: a 3.5mm single-ended socket and a 4.4mm balanced output. The balanced connection delivers 200mW @ 32Ω in low gain and 800mW @ 32Ω in high gain, with a 124dB signal-to-noise ratio and 112dB channel separation. The single-ended output reaches 51mW and 204mW @ 32Ω with 121dB SNR. Distortion is quoted at just 0.0005% on both outputs, and there is a two-gear gain adjustment to match sensitive in-ears through to full-size headphones.

Compact Aluminium Body with a Rotatable Screen

The chassis is aluminium, which keeps the body dense and durable at only 18mm thick, and the 3-inch OLED touchscreen runs at 720 × 720. The interface can be rotated through four angles to suit how you hold the player, and a custom FN button plus dedicated hardware keys cover the controls you use most without waking the screen. Charging runs over USB-C at 12W PD, and the battery provides up to 8.5 hours of playback on either output.

Two-Way Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and USB Modes

Bluetooth 5.2 works in both directions with LDAC, aptX HD, aptX, AAC and SBC supported for transmission and reception, so the XM2 can feed wireless headphones or act as a Bluetooth receiver. Wi-Fi covers 2.4GHz and 5GHz with DLNA, AirPlay and TIDAL streaming, and SyncLink through the companion app on iOS and Android adds remote control. The USB-C port works both ways too: as a USB DAC input, and as a USB digital output for an external converter.

Magnetic Leather Case and Everyday Practicality

A magnetic leather case is available separately, cut from genuine leather and designed for an exact fit. Its magnetic ring lets the case attach to the back of a smartphone, which keeps the player and phone together in use. The case comes in purple, green and orange. We are listing the player on its own, so the case can be added separately if you want it.
