The Slimmest High-End Android Player

The ONIX Waltz XM10 is the first high-end Android digital audio player from ONIX, and it arrives with a design brief that few rivals attempt: to be as thin as a flagship can be. At just 11.5mm it is the slimmest Hi-Fi Android player on the market, built from high-density stainless steel so that the thinness never costs rigidity. The result is a player that feels dense and substantial in the hand while slipping into a pocket like a phone — a genuine portable flagship rather than a transportable one.

Ultra-Thin Stainless Steel Construction

The body is machined from stainless steel rather than aluminium, which is what allows ONIX to hold 11.5mm of thickness without the chassis flexing or ringing. It is described as the most compact of all high-end devices, and at 157 × 76.8 × 11.5mm and 338g it earns the claim. Six hardware buttons run down the side for playback and navigation without waking the screen, and the 6-inch touchscreen is a 2160 × 1080 panel chosen for high brightness and strong colour.

AKM AK4499EX and AK4191 DAC System

Conversion uses the flagship AKM pairing of an AK4499EX DAC with an AK4191 modulator, the same generation of silicon found in the most expensive desktop converters. ONIX tunes it for a natural rather than an analytical presentation, and the DAC section is supported by the company’s in-house "Brighton" architecture, developed for the ONIX Miracle. Resolution runs to 768kHz / 32-bit and native DSD1024 from local files, so the player is ready for the most demanding libraries.

Dual AD8397 Headphone Amplification

Two AD8397 amplifiers handle headphone drive, and they give the XM10 far more output than its dimensions suggest. Output reaches 877mW @ 32Ω from the balanced configuration and 227mW @ 32Ω single-ended, with 93mW and 24mW respectively into 300Ω for hard-to-drive full-size headphones. Distortion stays at 0.0007% balanced and 0.0009% single-ended, with dynamic range of 124dB and 122dB and signal-to-noise ratios to match, so the power arrives without a penalty in noise.

A Combined 3.5mm Output for Both Modes

Rather than fitting two headphone sockets, ONIX uses a single combined 3.5mm output that supports both single-ended and balanced operation. A 3.5mm to 4.4mm balanced adapter is supplied, and plugging it in hands the full balanced output to a 4.4mm cable. It is a neat solution that keeps the chassis thin, and it means one socket covers sensitive in-ear monitors and demanding full-size headphones without the usual compromise.

Open Android 13 with Modern Hardware

The XM10 runs an open Android 13 system on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor, so streaming and music apps install and update exactly as they would on a phone. Memory runs to 6GB of RAM with 128GB of internal storage, and a microSD card slot accepts cards up to 2TB for listeners who keep everything local. The platform is built to stay current rather than to be replaced, which matters in a player at this level.

Wireless Connectivity and Two-Way Bluetooth

Wi-Fi on 2.4GHz and 5GHz covers network streaming, with AirPlay 2 and DLNA supported, plus ONIX SyncLink for wireless use with the Miracle stack. Bluetooth 5.0 works in both directions: as a transmitter it sends audio to wireless headphones with LDAC, aptX HD, aptX, AAC or SBC, and as a receiver it accepts music from a phone using LDAC or SBC. A USB DAC mode turns the player into a desktop converter for a computer.

Battery, Charging and System Integration

A 4300mAh battery delivers up to 9 hours of playback, and it manages that on both outputs — 9 hours single-ended and 9 hours balanced, so there is no penalty for using the balanced adapter. Quick Charge and Power Delivery are both supported for fast top-ups. The XM10 is also fully compatible with the ONIX Miracle Stack, allowing modular upgrades, and its USB input uses an XMOS XU316 receiver for clean digital data.
