Product Highlights
A Flagship Design, Scaled Down to a Dongle
The SHANLING UA6 II is a portable USB DAC/AMP — a pocket-sized converter and headphone amplifier that plugs into your phone, tablet or computer over USB-C and takes over as its external sound card. Its design is carried over from Shanling’s flagship UA7, and it keeps the same distinct look: a compact screen for on-device settings and a tactile wheel for smooth volume control. The housing is machined from aluminium alloy with tempered glass, measuring just 62 × 30 × 13.5mm and weighing 30.8g, so it disappears into a pocket while still giving the 0.95-inch OLED display, the 3.5mm and 4.4mm headphone jacks and the USB-C port somewhere to live.
Eight CS43131 DACs — An Industry First
What sets the UA6 II apart is what sits inside it. Rather than the single converter found in most dongles, Shanling fits eight Cirrus Logic CS43131 DACs — an industry-first eight-DAC assembly in a portable USB dongle — and the eight cores work together as the foundation of the sound. According to Shanling, the design goal is to push background noise and distortion down across the entire frequency range, so that dense passages with numerous instruments or layered vocals stay composed instead of turning to mush. The measurements tell the same story: the balanced output reaches 133dB signal-to-noise ratio, which is why the background stays quiet enough for the smallest details to remain audible. Shanling describes the tuning as neutral and highly detailed, and calls the UA6 II its best-sounding solid-state UA model. You can also choose how the array runs, with selectable 4-DAC and 8-DAC operating modes.
Hi-Res Playback, Ready for Any Source
Native playback support covers PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz and DSD512, so the UA6 II is ready for essentially any high-resolution file or stream you can throw at it, with the format handled natively rather than scaled down before it reaches the DAC array. Both the single-ended and balanced outputs share the same 20Hz–40kHz (–0.5dB) frequency response, and conversion for every supported format is handled by the eight-chip CS43131 array described above.
3.5mm and 4.4mm Outputs with Serious Power
Both headphone connections are on board, so you can use a standard 3.5mm plug or step up to a balanced cable. The 3.5mm single-ended output delivers 1.85V @ 32Ω, rated at 107mW @ 32Ω, while the 4.4mm balanced output provides 3.418V @ 32Ω — up to 365mW @ 32Ω — for headphones that benefit from more headroom. Distortion is very low on both paths (0.0002% THD+N single-ended, 0.0006% balanced), and the dynamic range and signal-to-noise ratio both reach 128dB on the single-ended output and 133dB on the balanced output, where channel separation is also noticeably higher. The complete set of measurements, including noise floor and output impedance for each jack, is listed in the specifications below.
Screen, App and Everyday Control
Day-to-day control is split between the device itself and Shanling’s software. The compact screen handles on-device settings, the tactile wheel makes volume adjustments smooth and precise, and Shanling’s Eddict Player app is supported for everything else. Two USB audio modes are available — UAC 1.0 and UAC 2.0 — and can be selected to suit whichever host you plug into, with a single USB-C port handling the connection.
